Grenadian-Canadian Kaia Kater’s jazz-fueled voice and deft songcraft have garnered her extensive critical acclaim. Through artful banjo playing and lush songwriting, Kaia draws on influences rooted in Quebec, the Caribbean and Appalachia, all of which reflect the diversity of her background. Kater was a participant in SMF’s Acoustic Music Seminar, and was also a featured artist in SMF’s Musical Explorers program with bassist Andrew Ryan.
“…plaintive, mesmerizing… [Kater] writes and performs with the skill of a folk-circuit veteran…”

Viv & Riley (Vivian Leva and Riley Calcagno) play old-soul roots music, combining a traditional backbone with the fresh melodies of indie folk, and the tightly wound vocal harmonies of the old-time and classic country music they grew up with. Since 2018, they’ve recorded and released multiple albums to critical acclaim. The two also play in the old-time stringband The Onlies, and serve as co-artistic directors of The Festival of American Fiddle Tunes.
