Through an initial connection during NALEDI’s artist residency at the Savannah Music Festival, a creative project born out of a desire to connect with local community and find common ground was born. MiKeishia McPhaul is a dancer and choreographer from Savannah, Georgia, whose work has been featured in local community theater as well as through her partnerships with youth community projects such as the DEEP Center. Her passion to tell stories on the individual’s experiences and perspectives in the world deeply resonates with NALEDI’s love of storytelling about community connections. Both emerging artists with bountiful experience, their creative partnership has centered lived experience and finding nuances, similarities and differences in the worlds which they come from. Their intersecting passion for their people has lead to this project which celebrates, questions and explores the life-cycle through the lens of an always childlike curiosity. Underpinned by NALEDI’s incandescent compositions and poetic writing, the duo’s performance will invite audiences into a familiar, yet experimental world, beckoning their curiosities about their own relationships with home and the world they live in.
