Grammy winner Kathy Mattea brings her rich acoustic music heritage to a unique Christmas holiday music program. Featuring her warm, soulful vocals and skillful arrangements, Kathy’s talented band—featuring some of Nashville’s top musicians—offers a fresh take on a variety of holiday songs: from beloved traditional favorites to selections from her Grammy-winning 1993 album Good News and the acclaimed 2003 album Joy for Christmas Day, as well as her iconic rendition of “Mary, Did You Know?”.
Recognized by The Washington Post as “one of Nashville’s finest song interpreters,” Kathy Mattea has built a remarkable 40-year career in Country, Bluegrass, and Folk music, earning two Grammy Awards, four CMA Awards, four #1 country hits, and five gold albums (plus a platinum Greatest Hits collection). Her most recent album, Pretty Bird, was produced by her longtime friend and roots music expert Tim O’Brien. This diverse album marks a period of renewed dedication to her craft, as Mattea worked with a vocal coach and emerged with a heartfelt and varied collection of songs. Beyond her music and touring, Kathy has become increasingly involved in public broadcasting, consulting and appearing in Ken Burns’ 2019 PBS documentary Country Music, and recently taking over as host of the NPR show Mountain Stage from its founder, Larry Groce.
