The Savannah Music Festival (SMF) is a leading nonprofit performing arts organization dedicated to presenting exceptional live music that entertains, educates, inspires, and unites communities. In addition to year-round performances, music education, community engagement, and broadcast initiatives, SMF produces one of the most distinctive multi-genre music festivals in the world. Hailed by the Atlanta-Journal Constitution as “one of the gleaming musical treasures of the Southeast” and by the Toronto Star as “one of North America’s most distinctive musical events,” the annual springtime festival has featured thousands of artists from across the globe since its founding in 1989. 

Position Overview:

The Marketing Director of the Savannah Music Festival is responsible for planning, developing, and executing comprehensive marketing strategies to drive the festival’s success and growth. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role requires a creative and dynamic professional who can align marketing efforts with SMF’s mission. The role also plays a key part in driving attendance, increasing ticket sales, supporting fundraising efforts, and enhancing community engagement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute marketing plans to increase ticket sales, drive audience engagement, and raise awareness of SMF’s programs and events, including fundraising, education, and community impact initiatives.
  • Develop and oversee the marketing budget, ensuring effective allocation and performance tracking.
  • Conduct market research to identify new opportunities, understand audience behaviors, and analyze competitive environments.
  • Analyze and report on marketing campaign effectiveness, leveraging data from website performance, social media, and ticket sales.
  • Manage day-to-day marketing activities, including media buys, ad schedules, and placements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external partners, vendors, and agencies for advertising, digital marketing, and PR initiatives.
  • Oversee content creation for digital platforms, including websites, e-newsletters, and social media channels.
  • Lead creative direction for all visual components of marketing materials across all media, ensuring consistent brand standards.
  • Track expenses, estimate costs, and manage print and production schedules for marketing collateral.
  • Supervise the production of commercials and promotional spots for broadcast media and streaming services.
  • Collaborate with publicists and partner PR teams to maximize media exposure.
  • Play an active role in cultivating new audiences, donors, and sponsors.
  • Manage promotional ticketing initiatives and group sales.
  • Manage the design, production, and sale of festival merchandise, including overseeing the festival’s pop-up shop.
  • Oversee festival photography and videography, maintaining digital archives.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor marketing staff and interns and perform annual review processes.

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of marketing experience, preferably in the performing arts or nonprofit sector.
  • Strong skills in strategic marketing, digital campaigns, and audience development.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro).
  • Experience with marketing analytics, data-driven decision-making, and performance measurement.
  • Familiarity with Tessitura CRM is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • A team player spirit with a hands-on, can-do attitude and the ability to foster a collaborative and positive work environment.
  • Passion for the performing arts and commitment to community engagement.
  • Availability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary: $75,000 – $95,0000/annually. A competitive benefits package is offered, including health insurance and paid time off.
